Pat and Norman Douse very kindly hosted a Picnic tea, as a fundraiser for the Group, at their home on Sunday 22 Aug. The event was very successful with the weather being very kind with bright sunshine and a large gathering of group members, friends and family.

Pat put on a wonderful spread of sandwiches, savouries and cakes, and of course plenty of tea, plus something a little stronger for some. The fund raising activities were organised by Michelle, Pats daughter in law & group member, and consisted of a raffle, lucky dip, guess the weight of the cake and guess how many “stone chips” were in an ornamental vase.

Every one present enjoyed the afternoon and dug deep as just over £110.00 was raised for Group funds. I would like to say, on behalf of the Group Committee, a very big thank you to Pat & Norman for volunteering and organising the Picnic tea in their home, Michelle for the raffle etc, and also to all those who attended and gave so willingly.

In June members of the group, along with their friends and family, took a cruise on the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal, Mike Broome (group secretary) has written a short recap and has kindly agreed to share some photographs.

Group members, family and friends recently enjoyed an afternoon tea cruise on the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal. The cruise departed from the Gloucester Waterways Museum in Gloucester Docks on their pleasure boat King Arthur, and sailed as far as Saul Junction near Frampton Upon Severn. Unusually, the weather was perfect, with a typical warm English sunny summer afternoon, allowing all to enjoy the views of the Gloucestershire countryside as we sailed by.

There was a half hour stop at Saul Junction to look around and then back on the boat for a lovely light afternoon tea (with cakes!!) on the return trip. The cruise was a great success, with all aboard enjoying an afternoon of relaxing and watching the world go by, in fact so much so that many asked if we could organise another trip next year... we shall see.
